FAQ

  • How can I get my photos, music and files on my new tablet or laptop?
    • Tablets are designed to provide easy access to files that are available over the web.  Once you have moved your files to an external drive, you can plug it in to many wireless routers and access the files on your mobile device.  Now some external drives are made that have wifi built right in, along with a battery to make it mobile!  The Seagate Wireless Plus is perfect for tablet access.  See your device for detailed instructions.
  • Why doesn’t GEEPS work on MACs?
    • Mac’s have a proprietary file system.  But Geeps does work on any PC built since 1998, with every version of windows or other pc operating system currently in operation.
  • Can I transfer my files to a MAC?
    • Yes, files copied with GEEPS are compatible with a Mac.
  • Do you sell external USB drives or External hard drives?
    • GEEPS32 has file storage space built right in so you don’t need an external drive.  If you want to purchase one,  here is a site that provides additional information.
  • Why do I need an External Hard Drive?
    • GEEPS CD is loaded with the magic, but does not contain any storage space.  With this model the external hard drive is to store the files from your old computer and make them available to your mobile device or new computer.  Many people already have one or more of these storage devices in their homes, and can simply plug them in and move the data with GEEPS.  If you purchased a GEEPS – USBv2 or GEEPS32, you have 1.7Gig or 30Gig (respectively) of storage as well as the great software to move your data and format your old computer drive.
  • Why is it called GEEPS32 if it only has 30 Gig of storage available?
    • To be accurate, it has over 32,000,000,000 bytes of information.  While that is over 32 billion bytes of storage, because gigabytes are measured in units of 1,024, there are fewer gigabytes than billions of bytes.  For some reason manufacturers have established this standard sizing practice.
  • What is the difference between GEEPSv2, GEEPS CD and GEEPS32?
    • GEEPSv2 has 1.7Gig of storage built in, so for small jobs like recovering product keys or moving data in small amounts, GEEPSv2 gets the job done!  GEEPS CD will move data and erase the old hard drive, but does not contain any room to store your files.  Some computers will start from CD easier than from USB.  If you are not sure, see if your computer will work with a USB keyboard.  Computers old enough (pre-1998) that they have to use the ps2 style plug for keyboards will not boot from a USB drive and will need to use GEEPS CD.  GEEPS32 is a complete solution with enough on board storage for many jobs.  If you don’t already own an external hard drive and don’t want to buy one, GEEPS32 is your solution.
  • My computer is infected.  Am I going to bring the virus along with the data?
    • GEEPS will help you side step almost every type of virus, trojan, rootkit or malware, as long as you don’t copy executable files over with your data.  In other words, leave the programs behind.  In order to operate properly, most programs need to be installed and registry entries created, so copying a program from one computer to another usually won’t work anyway.  Most malware/viruses attach themselves to programs that are run in memory so that they can take control and do what their creator designed them for.  By leaving your programs on the broken pc, you leave the problem behind.
